Goodness! What a long time! I'm still here, cooking, creating, homeschooling and gardening.
I read and catch up with lots of your blogs, but have neglected mine.
So coming up to Christmas I thought I would post a little embroidery.

Happy Crafting x.

Life map. Lloyd Kahn on his NorCal self-reliant half-acre homestead.

Anyone into homesteading may like this film.Anyone into arts and crafts too.
I love the 'if you don't know where to start, just start'.
The thing that strikes me about the film is the little sections in the house of the different things they love to do.
To me it creates a type of map of interests, weaving, building, dyeing, growing etc etc.
What sort of footprint would your life make?

papier mache.

I do love cutting and sticking!
Here are three new pieces where I wanted to explore shapes,so  I used minimal colour to emphasize it.
They use card and papier mache.

'Let the Creative Spirit Soar'.

'Starlight.'

'The Mermaid.'

Hope you are well on this dark and blustery day.x

Matisse's Marguerite.

I love the painting Matisse made of his daughter Marguerite-one of many.
Marguerite was part of the French Resistance, she was captured by the Nazis.
Whilst on a train bound for a concentration camp she escaped.
She lived to 87.

I found the perfect colour to stitch onto.

I used the mourning button I had and a little black bird.

She turned out looking a bit older than the real portrait!
Maybe a bit like a lady of the night too!
Hope you have a good weekend.
Au Revoir !

Applique Portraits

I have been working on some more little portraits, made of fabric, they have their own papier mache frames.
I love the work of Matisse, I'm not sure if the portrait below is by Matisse (?) It may be a copy of 'The Idol' 1905-06.

I love the colours and bold pattern.
I thought you may like to see the process, so here is some of it in pictures.

I wade through my fabric to pick similar colours/patterns/textures.
I like to work by hand, turning the fabric over and securing it with stitches.

Some of the thread for the mouth got caught, but I liked the way it looked so I left it.

I need to put a little hook on the back, then she's finished.
Has anyone else tried applique?
Bye for now.
